The Cinethéque

Cineteket in Ystad is an exciting film museum where you can learn everything about film production. Don’t miss the props from the Wallander films!

No one could have missed that the world-famous fictitious police detective Kurt Wallander is from Ystad. Most of the films were shot in or around the city. This is true for both the Swedish and the English versions of the films. Several other films have been shot on the site of the former regimetal headquarters where Ystad Studios is based. Next to the studio lies the city’s film museum, Cineteket.

The museum offers plenty of exciting activities for visitors of all ages. There is, for example, a unique collection of props from the shooting of both the Swedish and the English Wallander films. There is a also a “police playhouse” where you can be photographed in the shape of a criminal. You can also have your fingerprints taken and try firing Kurt Wallander’s service pistol.

There is also the opportunity to follow how a Swedish feature film is made, starting with the narration itself and finishing with a visit to the short-film theatre. On the way, you can try reading film scripts, animate, walk around film sets, etc. You can also try coming up with your own story and then animate it. Or simply put, learn practically everything about film production.

Aside from the exhibitions, there is a cosy film café that serves delicious sandwiches and cakes with coffee or other beverages.

The Cinethéque is very positive to groups and special events, such as guided tours of Ystad Studios. To find out more, please contact us using the telephone number or e-mail provided.
